I’m not sure about paid off immediately. Just set up automatic payments to pay the full balance every month. It takes 5 minutes one time and you never have to think about it again. No late payments, interest or other charges to worry about.

I forgot to double the points since it was a rountrip, not a one way. Is it worth buying points right now on SW? They’re having a deal that if you buy 15,000 points or more, you save 45%. (60,000 points for $907.50)

So I just did the math for a roundtrip flight from SFO to LAX, ($98), or 3,0333 points. The math I got out of this was $98-$11.20/3,033 = 2.86 cents per point. Is this correct? Are the points worth alot more right now?

Well said. This is far better than the travel funds, which expire. We had a situation with one of our parents’ health, and unfortunately the did expire. Points refunded, would have been much better.

SWA treats tickets purchased with points as fully refundable tickets. There are times when that kind of flexibility is very valuable (such as for me, so I can book flights for a parent in poor health, who might not be able to travel as planned). Valuing this flexibility is very subjective, but I would put it at 2 cents a point for me, taking into consideration how much I would pay for a fully refundable ticket.

You did that in Dallas a couple of years ago. I learned alot at the meeting in Dallas.

Glad you’re excited, that makes two of us!

Been excited for Southwest fights to Hawaii…the more competition there is the better it is (usually) for us consumers!

Can’t beat 2 tickets to Hawaii for less than maybe $300!!! #STOKED!

P.S. Thanks for the details on this post!

It is also worth pointing out for those that may use their points for someone else that those points will come back to your account to be reused how you want. When you pay cash the voucher can only be used by the original traveler how they want, if they even use it at all. This can be important whether it is a friend or family member that doesn’t travel often and may not use it before it expires or a significant other if the relationship ends before the trip.
